reverbertaion

The word was uttered but the orator is long gone. The light is shining but the star is long extinguished. Reverberation – is a series of paintings that attempt the impossible, capturing the past from black and white photos taken in my native Russia and childhood stories told and re-told by my parents. I paint my great grandfather who I never met, my father as a boy who I could have never met at that age, my aunt who died when I was four, myself in my first day of school, a girl whom I barely believe existed. Like in memories, there are blank spaces in these paintings and various degrees of finish. The viewer is invited to fill in the gaps and thus completes the work. Whose memories are these now?

On view with Timothy Yarger Fine Art: Art Chicago (2011) & San Francisco Art Market (2012).
